Meet the Staff
FON Editor Keith Reid began writing for National Petroleum News in 1999, where he moved from a staff editor, to a managing editor to editor-in-chief in 2007. He began serving as the editor of Fuel Oil News in 2007. In numerous articles he has covered oil policy, regulation, legislation, marketing, business diversification, equipment and technology. Previously, Reid handled communications for an international trade association representing the household water treatment industry.
FON Managing Editor Nicholas Upton joined the team in 2013. He has been working in journalism since 2006 touching on national news and travel before various editorial roles in trade journalism. He thrives on meeting and chatting with passionate owners and entrepreneurs about their businesses.
Shane Sweet is an energy and management consultant with clients in the heating oil, propane and motor fuel sectors and is a partner with the firm of Lake Rudd & Company. He served the industry as president & CEO of the New England Fuel Institute “NEFI” from 2007 to 2011, and as EVP/director and lobbyist for the Vermont Fuel Dealers Association “VFDA” from 1993 to 2007.
Charlie Bursey began his long career in the oil heating industry in 1963. He has delivered coal, kerosene and oil and serviced heating and cooling equipment. He has also managed service departments, worked for a manufacturer and currently works with F.W. Webb, Warwick, R.I. He is a recipient of the Association of Oil & Energy Service Professionals’ prestigious Hugh McKee Award for making an outstanding contribution to the fuel oil industry; having had an understanding and cooperation with his/her fellowman; and having unselfishly aided the industry.
Contributing Editor Stephen Bennett, a longtime business reporter, covers operations and marketing; trade associations and regulations; research and development by vendors and by Brookhaven National Laboratory, the National Oilheat Research Alliance, and the Oil Manufacturers Association; and dealers’ diversification into propane and other businesses. Bennett is based in Connecticut.
George Lanthier is the owner of Firedragon Academy, a Massachusetts Certified School teaching both gas and oil heating and is a publishing firm. He is the author of over 60 books and manuals on gas and oil heating and HVAC subjects. He is a CETP, NATE, NORA, PMAA and PMEF Proctor and a Massachusetts Certified Instructor.
