The home heating oil industry has a long and proud history, and Fuel Oil News has been there supporting it since 1935. It is an industry that has faced many challenges during that time.

In its 82nd year, Fuel Oil News is doing more than just holding our ground with initiatives focused on appliance efficiency, green solutions and customer choice.

Meet the Staff

Stephen Bennett contributed articles to Fuel Oil News for many years before he became editor of the magazine in September 2016. He has worked for 30 years as a reporter or editor for business publications, covering, at one time or another, industries such as food retailing, mall development and trucking before joining Fuel Oil News. He started his career as a reporter for a daily newspaper in Westchester County, N.Y. Bennett is based in Connecticut.

Shane Sweet is an energy and management consultant with clients in the heating oil, propane and motor fuel sectors and is a partner with the firm of Lake Rudd & Company. He served the industry as president & CEO of the New England Fuel Institute “NEFI” from 2007 to 2011, and as EVP/director and lobbyist for the Vermont Fuel Dealers Association “VFDA” from 1993 to 2007.

George Lanthier is the owner of Firedragon Academy, a Massachusetts Certified School teaching both gas and oil heating and is a publishing firm. He is the author of over 60 books and manuals on gas and oil heating and HVAC subjects. He is a CETP, NATE, NORA, PMAA and PMEF Proctor and a Massachusetts Certified Instructor.
