Dan Dukeshire joins Patten Oil Co.

Patten Oil Co., Inc., a retailer of home heating products and services in the Rutland, Vermont area is pleased to announce that Dan Dukeshire has joined the firm as senior vice president.

A native of Vermont, Dan graduated from Northeastern University in 1979 Suma Cum Laude with a degree in engineering.

Dan began his career in the oil industry working for Exxon USA, based in Houston, Texas. One of his unique assignments, while living in Little Rock, Arkansas, was selling Exxon products to Sam Walton while WalMart was still in its’ infancy. Other positions within Exxon included sales of distillate products for the company’s Baytown, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana refineries.

After residing in many southern states Dan found he missed Vermont and chose to return to New England to work for Johnson and Dix as Sales Manager of Lubricants.

In 1989, Dan accepted a position with Sherman V. Allen, Inc. to assist in a major acquisition in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Soon after, he transferred to Rutland to continue the development of Sherman V. Allen’s holdings in Vermont as well as overseeing the company’s fuel oil division. He proceeded to the positions of Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer and ultimately was named President in 1995. During his tenure with Sherman V. Allen, Dan was instrumental in the development of the ‘Mac’s” trade name, keying off the nickname of the company’s owner, Sherman V. ‘Mac” Allen. The company gained recognition in the Rutland County area as an ’employer of choice”, supporting numerous area organizations, thus resulting in Sherman Allen being named ‘Business Person of the Year” by the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce. Dan continued Mac’s horizontal development by creating a grocery store division. In 2006, Dan was named ‘Retailer of the ! Year” by the Vermont Grocer’s Association.

Dan has served on numerous of board’s of directors as part of his commitment to the petroleum and retail industries. Dan and his wife Linda reside in Rutland Town.
