Combined U.S. factory shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for February totaled 267,444, down 21 percent compared with the same month a year ago. For the year-to-date, combined shipments totaled 489,863, down 27 percent compared with the same period last year.


Heat pump shipments for February totaled 104,260 down 18 percent from the same month a year ago. For the year-to-date, heat pump shipments totaled 195,620, a 23 percent drop compared with the same period last year. 


U.S. factory shipments of gas-fired, warm-air furnaces in February totaled 123,629, a 20 percent drop compared with the same month a year ago. Oil-fired, warm-air furnaces for the same month totaled 3,494, a 5.4 percent drop compared with February 2008 totals. For the year-to-date, gas furnace shipments totaled 257,999, a 21.2 percent drop compared with the same period last year. Oil furnace shipments for the year-to-date totaled 6,810, a 28.5 percent drop compared with the same period last year.


Residential electric water heater shipments for February totaled 321,055, an 11.2 percent drop from the same month a year ago. Residential gas water heater shipments totaled 327,591, a 6.4 percent decrease compared with shipments for the same month last year. For the year-to-date, about 643,452 residential gas water heaters have been shipped, a 4 percent drop compared with the same period a year ago.  For the year-to-date, about 634,232 residential electric storage water heaters have been shipped, a 9.4 percent drop compared to the same period last year.


Commercial gas water heater shipments for February totaled 7,214, dropping 6.3 percent compared with the same month last year, while commercial electric water heater shipments totaled 4,520, a 16.6 percent drop compared with the same month a year ago. For the year-to-date, commercial electric water heater shipments (9,291) are 12.2 percent behind total shipments of this product during the same period last year (10,586). Commercial gas water heater shipments (13,230) for the year-to-date are down 11.2 percent, compared with the same period a year ago (14,893).
