Building Products Magazine Selects Trane As 2009 Green Product Award Winner

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 23, 2009) ‘ Trane is pleased to announce it has been selected by Building Products magazine as a 2009 Green Product Award winner.  Trane was selected for its XL20i communicating air conditioner and is one of only 16 winners in the second annual contest.  The Trane XL20i’s Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio rating of up to 20.00 is among the highest energy efficiency ratings of any air conditioner available today, and helps homeowners use up to 60 percent less energy.[1]  Thanks to the ComfortLink II Communicating System technology, the XL20i connects to all of the communicating components of a home’s heating and cooling system, providing homeowners with valuable information for constant monitoring, comfort and convenience.

The Green Product Award winners were judged on their green and sustainable attributes, including but not limited to energy efficiency, resource efficiency, and/or health and comfort.  Each product also was evaluated on its innovation and overall value to residential construction professionals employing green building practices.

The Green Product Awards were open to all categories of residential building products, materials and technologies introduced between January 2008 and April 2009.  The award winners represent the best new products that contribute to green-built homes and that bring the most value to builders, remodelers or architects, or their clients.

‘The winners of the annual Green Product Awards represent great options that pros can and ebuild.com,” said Jean Dimeo, editorial director for Building Products and ebuild.com.  ‘These products and materials offer innovative features, eye-catching aesthetics, ease of installation, or other valuable benefits to the contractor or the consumer.”

Manufacturers submitted a comprehensive application for each product to Building Products magazine, and the entries were reviewed by a select panel of judges including builders, remodelers and architects.  Products were evaluated on their own merit, rather than in competition to other entries.

‘Trane has built a legacy of innovation and reliability and this award recognizes those attributes and the exceptional efficiency our products deliver,” said Dale Green, vice president and general manager, dealer and distributor channel, Trane Residential Solutions.  ‘As an industry leader in residential heating and cooling, Trane is dedicated to providing builders and families with unsurpassed comfort and energy savings’helping homeowners go green while also saving some green with their energy costs.”

The second annual Green Product Awards are featured in the fall 2009 issue of Building Products magazine and on the magazine’s Web site, ebuild.com.  The winners have also been posted on ecohomemagazine.com, a sister Web site to ebuild.
