Grassroots effort required in New Jersey

Eric DeGesero, executive vice president of the fuel merchants association of New Jersey has proved the following legislative action request. On Monday Dec. 14, 2009 legislation was introduced in the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly that will positively revolutionize our industry, “Ultra-Low Sulfur and Biobased Heating Oil Fuel Act of 2009.”
Beginning July 1, 2011 the only heating oil that can be sold in New Jersey will be that which has a sulfur content of no more than 15ppm and has a 3 percent blend of biofuel, increasing to 5 percent.
The bills are sponsored in the Assembly by Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-Union) and Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex) and in the Senate by Senators Bob Smith (D-Middlesex) and Kip Bateman (R-Somerset).
Passage of these bills will require a strong and effective grassroots effort by all FMA members in early 2010 when the new legislature convenes and Governor Christie is sworn in.
