AHRI Releases February 2011 U.S. Heating, Cooling Equipment Shipment Data
The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is the trade association representing manufacturers of air conditioning, heating, and commercial refrigeration equipment. AHRI provides regular reports on the sales of a variety of equipment. Offered below is the data for February 2011.
Residential Storage Water Heaters
U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for February 2011 decreased 6 percent, to 316,869 units, down from 336,478 units shipped in February 2010. Residential electric storage water heater shipments decreased 6 percent in February 2011, to 291,913 units, down from 311,409 units shipped in February 2010. For the year-to-date, U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters decreased 7 percent, to 620,298 units, compared to 665,566 units shipped during the same period in 2010. Residential electric storage water heater shipments decreased 6 percent year-to-date, to 584,569 units, compared to 623,027 units shipped during the same period in 2010.
Commercial Storage Water Heaters
Commercial gas storage water heater shipments increased 0.9 percent in February 2011, to 6,986 units, up from 6,923 units shipped in February 2010. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 13 percent in February 2011, to 4,881 units, up from 4,339 units shipped in February 2010. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters decreased 3 percent, to 13,124 units, compared with 13,521 units shipped during the same period in 2010. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 10 percent to 9,262 units, up from 8,459 units shipped during the same period in 2010.
Warm Air Furnaces
U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for February 2011 decreased 0.4 percent, to 150,310 units, down from 150,869 units shipped in February 2010. Oil warm air furnace shipments decreased 9 percent, to 3,402 units in February 2011, down from 3,752 units shipped in February 2010. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased 7 percent, to 341,108 units, compared with 319,893 units shipped during the same period in 2010. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces decreased 8 percent to 8,639 units, compared with 9,361 units shipped during the same period in 2010.
Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps
U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 351,258 units in February 2011, up 36 percent from a revised total of 258,802 units shipped in February 2010. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 33 percent, to 203,706 units, up from a revised total of 153,282 units shipped in February 2010. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 40 percent, to 147,552 units, up from a revised total of 105,520 units shipped in February 2010. Year-to-date combined shipments of residential central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 19 percent, to 675,285 units, up from a revised total of 569,877 units shipped in February 2010. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 16 percent, to 401,122 units, up from a revised total of 347,131 units shipped during the same period in 2010. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 23 percent, to 274,163 units, up from a revised total of 222,746 units shipped during the same period in 2010.
