When long-time Grundfos dealer, Beinhower Brothers Drilling Co. (Johnstown, Ohio) president Brad Ulery sought the manufacturer’s support for a unique demonstration home in nearby Columbus, district sales manager Jim Cole responded with the only answer possible ‘ of course.

The donation request was for a Grundfos SmartFlo SQE Constant Pressure System to be installed in the Universal Design Living Laboratory (UDLL). UDLL is designed to help architects, builders and the public better understand how to create an accessible, comfortable living environment that enhances quality of life. The UDLL home incorporates unobtrusive universal design, resource- and energy-efficient green-building methods, advanced automation technology, a healthy-home construction approach and feng shui design principles. The finest craftsmanship and state-of-the-art products and services are incorporated. The gardens will feature wheelchair-accessible pathways with raised flowerbeds and containers.

Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D., a wheelchair user, and her husband Mark Leder are building and will live in the UDLL home.

Rossetti has been using a wheelchair for the past 12 years, when a 7,000-pound tree fell on her while she was riding her bicycle, causing a spinal-cord injury that severely limits her mobility.
