NEFI President & CEO Visits DC to Press Industry Priorities

New England Fuel Institute President & CEO Michael C. Trunzo flew to Washington, DC for a round of meetings with key New England Congressional offices on a number of top-tier industry priorities, including support for renewing the NORA program, full funding for fuel assistance, stronger energy trading rules and greater U.S. energy security.

“We’re making progress, especially in communicating our industry’s ongoing transformation into a more modern, secure and efficient fuel,” Trunzo said.  “Our regional delegation gets that, and I believe that will translate to broader momentum for legislation in support of programs like NORA, which are so important to the industry.”

He met with the offices of Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), who is on the committee that oversees commodity trading regulation and last month introduced a new bill to place stronger limits on oil speculation; Representative Charlie Bass (R-NH), who is on the Energy Committee and is lead House sponsor of the bill to renew NORA; Representative Mike Michaud (D-ME) who is on the Transportation Committee and is fighting for lower truck weight limits and other regulatory relief; Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) who is a senior member of the Appropriations Committee and has been urging full funding for fuel assistance and new energy trading rules; and Rep. Frank Guinta (R-NH), who is seriously considering co-sponsorship of the NORA bill.

Trunzo also met with Chairman Gary Gensler and Commissioner Jill Sommers of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on the implementation of new trading rules under last year’s Wall Street Reform law.
