NEFI to Testify before U.S. Energy Secretary on Monday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — NEFI President & CEO Michael C. Trunzo will testify on the state of the home heating oil industry in New England at a U.S. Department of Energy hearing in Providence, Rhode Island on Monday, April 21st.

The hearing is being held to solicit input from energy stakeholders and the general public on the state of energy reliability, infrastructure and supply in the six-state region. It is among the first in a series of hearings to be held around the country as part of the multi-agency ‘Quadrennial Energy Review” (QER) recently ordered by President Obama. It is based on similar quadrennial reviews already required for the nation’s national security capabilities, diplomatic efforts and other matters.

Trunzo will provide Energy Secretary Moniz with background on the mostly small business and family-owned and -operated heating oil industry in New England. He will explain the transition to an ultra-low sulfur and biofuel-blended product and the benefits it will have for the region’s environment, businesses and consumers. Trunzo will also outline several challenges facing the industry and provide recommendations to government officials on some “common sense solutions.

The event will be split into two parts. NEFI will testify at Part I beginning at 9:00am at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI. Part II will be held at 1:00pm at the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s Pheonix Auditorium in Hartford, CT. Both hearings will begin with expert witnesses and conclude with an ‘open microphone” session on a first-come, first-served basis.

Several state Governors and members of Congress are expected to attend this event.
