The New England Fuel Institute appointed Martha Leshine to the position of acting president and chief executive officer. For the past two years she had been serving as chief operating officer. The appointment is effective immediately and fills a position that has been vacant since January 1, 2015.

The Institute announced the appointment in the April 24 issue of its newsletter, NEFI Energy Online News. Board Chairman Mike Estes said he and other officers believe Martha Leshine “has the skill set needed to serve as acting President and Chief Executive.” Estes also said in the newsletter, “NEFI, like much of the industry we represent, is in a transitional period. We are in the process of relocating the association’s main office and are beginning a strategic planning process for both NEFI and its Education Foundation. With all of this happening at once, we need an executive who will help keep the association on track, and Martha Leshine has proven during her time as Chief Operating Officer that she can do exactly that.”

Over the past two years Leshine increased membership and sponsorships and strengthened the financial position of both NEFI and its Education Foundation, the newsletter reported. Leshine has planned and overseen successful Visions and EXPO events and organized two strategic planning sessions. Through her efforts, the two entities are in a strong financial position and ready to move forward.

Leshine can be reached at (617) 924-1000 or martha.leshine@nefi.com.
