NEFI: Fuel Oil and Propane Hold Healthy Share of Northeast Market
Heating oil and propane marketers serve more than six million homes, or approximately 30% of the residential space heating market in the Northeast, according to a new NEFI analysis, writes Jim Collura, director of legislative affairs for the New England Fuel Institute, Worcester, Mass.
Market share is even higher in New England, where one of the two fuels is reportedly used by approximately 45% of homes (2.5 million), Collura writes in the Aug. 14 issue of NEON, the Institute’s newsletter. The findings were drawn from the most recent U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, which provides a five-year average of heating fuel use by occupied residencies.
The newsletter includes a summary of market share for Oilheat and propane in the Northeast, by state. NEFI also analyzed the residential space heating market by Congressional District, information that will be essential to industry advocacy efforts going forward, Collura writes.
