Woolley Fuel Marks 10 Years in Biodiesel Service
Woolley Fuel, Maplewood, N.J., is marking its 10th year dealing biodiesel in New Jersey.
Led by Norman Woolley, Jr., the company started with B5 blends, and now due to demand, it is selling B30 to customers, it said in a news release.
“It is hard to believe that 10 years has passed since the opening of the first public biodiesel fueling station in New Jersey. Kudos, thanks, and credit go to Norm and his colleagues for their forward thinking and entrepreneurial spirit in being the first to bring this environmentally friendly fuel to the public,” Brian Palmer, New Jersey Soybean Board chairman, said in the news release. “It is our hope that the usage of this important alternative fuel increases, that the environment will reap the benefits, and that Woolley Fuel will continue its success in the marketplace as they enter their 95th year.”
Woolley Fuel was started in 1924 by brothers Herbert and Norman W. Woolley Sr. Their desire was to start a coal company like their father’s.
Biofuel from Woolley is accessible throughout much of New Jersey including Essex, Morris, Somerset, Hunterdon, and Union Counties.
Mayor Victor DeLuca, Township of Maplewood, said, “Biodiesel has been working for us. Each day hundreds of commuters ride to and from our train station on jitneys that are fueled by biodiesel. Using biodiesel helps us reduce our carbon footprint.”
Along with biodiesel, Woolley is a marketer of Bioheat, providing heating oil to northeastern New Jersey residents. Heating oil has been a part of the Woolley family business since close to the beginning.
“In the past decade the utilization of Bioheat and biodiesel have become commonplace. The recognition of the renewable aspect of the fuel, when combined with the seamless operation of vehicles and equipment running on it, make using it a no-brainer,” Eric DeGesero, executive vice president of Fuel Merchants Association of New Jersey, said in the Oct. 30 news release. “Woolley Fuel has been a company at the cutting edge of our industry for over 90 years. The fact they were an early adopter of Bioheat and biodiesel is no surprise as they embark on the next 95 years of industry leadership.”
Made from a diverse mix of resources such as recycled cooking oil, soybean oil and animal fats, biodiesel is a renewable, clean-burning diesel replacement that can be used in existing diesel engines without modification, Woolley Fuel said.
