NEFI reports that it brought together a national coalition of energy, HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration associations in calling for their industries’ essential workers be among those that receive priority access to COVID-19 vaccines.

The letter was submitted to the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Procedures (ACIP), the National Energy & Fuels Institute informed members in the Dec. 8 issue of its newsletter. A total of 293 such comment letters were submitted by businesses, organizations, and individuals, according to the newsletter, National Energy Online News.

The ACIP has recommended that healthcare and senior care professionals and the most vulnerable seniors be the first to receive the vaccine; the committee is expected to make recommendations for vaccine prioritization for critical workers in other sectors of the economy when it meets Dec. 11 and 13, NEFI Vice President and Director of Government Affairs Jim Collura reports in the newsletter.

“The coalition is urging the ACIP to consider the important role HVAC technicians and heating fuel delivery drivers play in protecting the warmth, health, and safety of Americans as the coronavirus surges and winter descends upon the country,” Collura writes.

The NEFI-led coalition includes the Air Movement & Control Association (AMCA), American Public Gas Association (APGA), Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), National Association of Oil & Energy Service Professionals (OESP), Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors (PHCC), Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), Women in Energy, and Women in HVACR.
