NEFI: HHS Releases $3.6 Billion of LIHEAP Funds
State LIHEAP agencies began to receive their award letters from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Nov. 28, the National Energy & Fuels Institute reported.
“It appears that approximately 90% of LIHEAP funding, equaling $3.6 billion, has been released to states, tribes and territories, enabling them to start distributing funds,” NEFI reported on Dec. 1.
The Institute noted that while HHS had not announced the action, “this aligns with its notice two weeks ago that funds would be released by the end of November. Timing for when Community Action Program agencies will begin accepting and approving applications will still vary by state, so LIHEAP-participating dealers should continue to maintain close communication with state heating fuel associations, relevant government offices, and CAP agencies to stay informed and prepared.”
