NEFI Calls for Full Funding of LIHEAP: $5.1 billion

“We are calling on Congress to fully fund LIHEAP at $5.1 billion for FY2026,” the National Energy & Fuels Institute said in its June 3 newsletter to members. “This funding level is essential to meet rising energy costs, support low-income families, and ensure energy security during extreme weather events.”

Full funding of  LIHEAP is “smart policy,” the trade group said. “It protects public health, promotes energy equity, and reinforces small business energy providers and the resilience of our energy delivery systems.”

A number of Representatives and Senators called for the program to be saved in recent letters to Congressional leaders, the newsletter noted.
