NEFI’s 34th North American Heating & Energy Expo

 


It’s that time again, for the bi-annual New England Fuel Institute’s North American Heating & Energy Expo. The event features a range of educational sessions, a trade show of the latest equipment, technologies and services and a range of networking opportunities.

This includes the headliner session on Tuesday featuring Richard Trethewey of “This Old House” fame and a recognized HVAC expert and master plumbing professional.


 


In addition to the free technical sessions, a special industry Energy Summit can be accessed for $295.00 for one person, $195.00 each for two people and and a $115.00 flat fee covers all additional persons from same company (Maximum fee for one company is $605). Summit attendees will have access to a number of business and industry sessions.

Returning this year is the time honored tradition of the NEFI Grande Convention Luncheon, to be held Wednesday, June 8. There will be an industry outlook and legacy presentation by former NEFI CEO and President Jack Sullivan; a special recognition with presentation of the Charles H. Burkhardt Award; and a timely luncheon address guest speaker to be announced.


An Open Board of Directors meeting of New England Fuel Institute will precede the

Changes within the next version of NFPA 31.


The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is the governing body for codes for oil heat equipment in most regions of the country. Even Massachusetts, which has its own CMR4 regulation, adopts many NFPA standards within its own code. There is a current 2011 standard and a new standard is due in 2015. This seminar offers a prime opportunity to grasp what the rules and regulations are with respect to oil-fired and propane appliances now, and what they’ll likely be in the future. This seminar will be overseen by John Levey, Oilheat Associates, Long Island, NY. He’ll be joined by fuel industry executives who presently sit on NFPA’s rulemaking board.

Meet, Greet, and Hear from Richard Trethewey, Master Plumbing & Heating Media Personality


Richard S. Trethewey (born circa 1956 in Dedham, Mass.) is an American plumber and HVAC contractor, who is best known as a television personality, appearing regularly on This Old House and its spin-offs, Ask This Old House and Inside. Richard is a registered journeyman and master plumber in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Hybrid Technology for Domestic Hot Water and Heating


Instructor: Jeff Quickel, Heat Transfer Products, an industry expert in the areas of heating and hot water. Learn about hybrid (solar) hot water systems with domestic fossil fuel for back-up, including propane high efficiency equipment.


 


Today’s Tech Tools


A classroom presentation whereby teachers for three separate products rotate among the class every 20 minutes to allow hands-on use of new tech tools such as thermal imaging cameras, portable, handheld diagnostic and flexible viewing cameras, blower door and duct blaster tools. Jim Todd, trainer for Beckett and a licensed pro for over 40 years, will participate.

Navian Tankless Technology for Domestic Hot Water and Heating


Instructor: Jeff Hubaney, a master plumber with numerous years of experience in the heating and hot water areas of the industry. Jeff is now with Navian America as a field tech leader.


 


Today’s Controls


Three separate teachers, three separate product classes that rotate every 20 minutes to allow hands-on use of today’s newer controls incl. thermostats, heat managers and outdoor resets. Participating: Bill Montgomery, Hydro Level Company. Their new control, the Fuel Smart HydroStat combines the functions of temperature limit control, low water cut-off and boiler reset. Bill is a 25-year HVAC professional.
