NEADA: Trump Administration Provides $0 for LIHEAP in Fiscal Year 2027
Today the Trump Administration released its Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 budget proposal (page 20), providing no funding for LIHEAP in the next fiscal year, NEADA said. This is the sixth time President Trump has proposed eliminating the program based on outdated fraud accusations and inaccurate claims about who the program serves, NEADA said in the statement.
The President’s budget request is just the beginning of the annual appropriations process. Congress is responsible for the country’s budget and can choose to adopt or reject provisions in the President’s proposal. In fact, in all six years that President Trump has proposed eliminating LIHEAP, Congress has not only upheld funding, but has provided small increases each year.
