November 3, 2009’According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of workers over age 65 grew by 101 percent between 1977 and 2007, higher than the percentage increase in the total employed population. The number of workers ages 65 and up is predicted to soar by more than 80 percent by 2016. Many of these workers will need to rely on prescription eyewear, making bifocal safety eyewear a PPE must.

To meet the eye protection needs of companies employing these workers, Gateway Safety offers two styles of bifocal eye protection’StarLite® MAG and Scorpion® MAG, which come in four diopter strengths: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5. Bifocals are necessary for those with presbyopia, a visual condition related to aging that causes lowered ability to focus sharply for near vision. Bifocal eyewear allows workers to clearly read instrumentation, work with small parts, or perform other close tasks without having to switch between their regular safety glasses and reading glasses, a dangerous practice that can result in errors and injuries.

StarLite® MAG is cost-effective, super-light bifocal eye protection from Gateway Safety’s popular StarLite family. Introduced nearly ten years ago, the original StarLite is still the one workers love to wear for its contemporary styling, comfort, and protection’and now, StarLite MAG comes in the same cost-effective StarLite design. Lenses come in clear or gray with a clear anti-fog option. Meets or exceeds ANSI Z87.2+ standard.

Scorpion® MAG contemporary-styled bifocal safety eyewear comes loaded with features that provide an extremely personalized fit. Adjustable-length, ratcheting temples, and a soft ‘fingertip” nosepiece make Scorpion MAG comfortable for all-day wear. The attractive dual lens design has a venting system that helps minimize fogging. Lenses come in clear or gray. Meets or exceeds ANSI Z87.2+ standard.
