HHS RELEASES $2.9 BILLION TO STATES IN LIHEAP FUNDING FOR FY 2014
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced the total fiscal year 2014 LIHEAP funds released under the Continuing Resolution (CR) apportionment passed by Congress last month as part of the temporary deal to reopen the federal government. Overall, HHS released $2.9 billion in regular block grant funding, which represents 90 percent of the fiscal year 2013 funding. The CR expires on January 15. Congress is working on the final appropriation funding level for LIHEAP as part of the House and Senate budget conference negotiations. LIHEAP supporters are asking for $4.7 billion in total funding for 2014.
