Energy Distribution Partners Acquires Carolina Propane

Energy Distribution Partners, based in Chicago, Ill., acquired Carolina Propane Gas Corp. of Orangeburg, S.C. EDP announced the acquisition on Aug. 30. Carolina Propane was established by the Watford family in 1994 and has served residential, commercial and agricultural customers for nearly 25 years.

Besides its headquarters in Orangeburg, Carolina Propane has a second location in St. Matthews, S.C. Carolina Propane was founded by Tommy and Allen Watford. They are retiring.

“Allen and I agreed that it was time to retire, but we wanted to ensure that our employees would remain with the company and could continue to provide exceptional service to our customers,” Tommy Watford said in the statement announcing the sale. “We are confident we found the right partner in EDP.”

Tom Knauff, Energy Distribution Partners’ CEO, noted that the acquisition “expands our national footprint into South Carolina, making it the ninth state we now serve. We welcome the company’s employees and look forward to continuing to provide exceptional service to Carolina Propane customers across the region.”

Energy Distribution Partners provides propane service to residential and commercial customers in California, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and now South Carolina. Energy Distribution Partners pursues a strategy of purchasing successful operations in propane and other fuels and in the midstream energy sector, retaining the brand name, preserving local management and delegating to leaders in local communities.
