Dan Holohan to Present Classic Hydronics

Dan Holohan will present his popular seminar, Classic Hydronics, on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Holiday Inn in Grantville, Penn. All proceeds from this seminar will benefit OESP's Dave Nelsen Scholarship program for students interested in pursuing their careers in the energy-service industry. The seminar will begin at 5 p.m. with a buffet dinner. Holohan will begin speaking at 5:30 p.m. and he'll finish up at 8:45 p.m.

New York HVAC Contractors Now Required to Recycle Mercury Thermostats

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into law a bill that requires any person or contractor who replaces a mercury-containing thermostat to deliver it to an appropriate collection site to be recycled. The bill also mandates that as of July 1, 2014, no HVAC wholesale distributor shall sell or distribute any thermostat unless the wholesaler participates as a collection site to recycle mercury thermostats.

NATE Introduces Changes to Certification Program

North American Technician Excellence announced major changes to its certification program for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians. The organization is adding new benefits, including an online Career Center for NATE-certified technicians, revising its certification period and certification maintenance requirements, and will soon introduce new and updated certification exams.

Lochinvar® Names November VIP Contractor Program Winners

Lochinvar has announced the second monthly winners in its VIP Contractor Program for the 2013-2014 heating season.  Steve Carr of SPC Plumbing & Heating in Methuen, Mass., was named the November winner of the VIP Installation Showcase, and Greg Cosgro of GEM Plumbing and Heating in Lincoln, R.I., was selected in the monthly drawing.  Both winners receive a trip for two to the world's largest country music festival as part of Lochinvar's Nashville Experience.

Passing of Don Isburgh on Oct. 25, 2013, at the Age of 85

Tom Peters of Empire State Petroleum Association has reported the passing of Don Isburgh.  Isburgh was the president of Amsterdam Oil Heat Corporation in Amsterdam, N.Y., and was always proud of the fact that he was the fourth generation in the fuel business. He was very active in the industry and served as president of the Oil Heat Institute of Eastern New York, of which he was a founding member and original incorporator. He was also a trustee of the Insurance Trust Fund of the Empire State Petroleum Association.
