UNYEA Awards Manning Scholarship, and Asks Members to Support It
Samantha R. Bowker of Walton, N.Y., received the Michael J. Manning Memorial Scholarship, in the sum of $1,500, the Upstate New York Energy Association (UNYEA) announced in its July newsletter. Another student, Krista Walrath, a sales clerk for Leroux Oil Co. in Fort Covington, N.Y., received a special honorable mention.
Bowker graduated from Walton Central School in June and plans to attend SUNY Delhi in Delhi, N.Y., to major in veterinary science technology. In addition to attaining a 3.35 grade point average in high school, Bowker was a member of the school’s music program, as well as the field hockey and track teams. She works part-time as a lifeguard.
Bowker’s math teacher writes, “Samantha has the strength and perseverance to overcome personal obstacles that most adults would struggle with. She cares about others more than she cares about herself. She truly is an amazing young woman, and I cannot speak highly enough of her.”
Bowker’s mother, Michelle Bowker, is a manager for Mirabito Energy Products in Binghamton, N.Y.
The Michael J. Manning Scholarship Fund needs support. The scholarship was established in memory of longtime member Michael J. Manning who died suddenly in 2004. Contributions are needed to ensure that the scholarship can continue to provide monetary awards to the employees and children of UNYEA members for college or vocational school.
Mike Manning was a friend to many members of UNYEA. Make a contribution, in any amount, by sending a check made out to UNYEA. The mailing address is: UNYEA, c/o ESEA, 56 Clifton Country Road, Suite 108, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
