Welcome to the January digital edition of Fuel Oil News magazine!

New York City awarded Approved Oil Co., Brooklyn, N.Y., a contract to supply renewable diesel to the fleets of various New York City agencies, including Sanitation, Police, Fire, Environmental Protection, Transportation, Parks and Recreation, and Correction. “By powering these essential agency fleets with renewable diesel, Approved Oil Company is playing a pivotal role in driving down carbon emissions and contributing to the realization of New York City’s ambitious green initiatives,” the company said in a statement.

Kris DeLair, executive director of the Empire State Energy Association since 2017, was honored by the Hudson Valley Oil & Energy Council as its Person of the Year. “This industry has always been able to pick itself back up and we’ve always had the grit and determination to meet adversity head-on, and that is one of the things I love most about the industry,” DeLair told Fuel Oil News following a dinner dance held in her honor on Nov. 4 at the Black Barn at Diamond Mills in Saugerties, N.Y.

The Biden Administration has invoked the 1950 Defense Production Act (DPA) to expedite funding toward increasing the domestic production of heat pumps. Industry groups “are looking into the legality of using the DPA in this manner, as well as the administration’s broader attack on consumer choice,” the New York State Energy Coalition said in its member newsletter, NYSEC Voice. “There is a strong possibility that this use of the DPA may be litigated.”
