Officials of Canada, Mexico to Address Tariffs at SNEEC

Representatives of Canada and Mexico are scheduled to speak about tariffs at the Southern New England Energy Conference, Sept. 25-26 in Newport, Rhode Island, the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association announced.

When President Trump announced tariffs on U.S. trading partners Canada and Mexico, followed by an announcement of new global tariffs, markets were thrown into turmoil, CEMA noted in announcing the speakers representing Canada and Mexico. “Given this fluid situation and the importance of Canada and Mexico to U.S. energy markets, we invited the governments of Mexico and Canada to address energy and trade issues at the Southern New England Energy Conference this September,” CEMA said. “We are pleased to announce that both of their embassies have accepted our invitations to send their government representatives to speak on these topics at our conference.”

Here is more from the CEMA announcement:

“In particular, Canadian distilled petroleum exports to New England and New York are critical to our local economies and to marketers. Mexico is a significant exporter of crude to the U.S. which impacts downstream supply and pricing nationwide.

“So, it is a breakthrough that these national governments will be addressing issues of importance to us at an industry conference, especially in these volatile times.” CEMA will be celebrating its 75th anniversary, and MEMA its 70th anniversary at the conference.
