Biodiesel Producers, Advocates Hit Capitol Hill
Nearly 100 biodiesel producers, feedstock suppliers and other advocates travelled to Washington on June 17 to voice concerns about the Obama Administration's proposed Renewable Fuel Standard for biodiesel. The biodiesel supporters arrived at a critical time for the industry, which has seen widespread cutbacks this year as a result of policy setbacks in Washington. A recent national survey of producers conducted by the National Biodiesel Board found that more than half have idled a plant this year and 78 percent have reduced production from last year. Nearly two-thirds--66%-- have already laid off employees or anticipate doing so.

Read More »FuelCell Energy Announces Combined Heat and Power Fuel Cell Solution for University of California, Irvine Medical Center
FuelCell Energy, Inc., a global leader in the design, manufacture, operation and service of ultra-clean, efficient and reliable fuel cell power plants, announced the development of a project to install a 1.4 megawatt fuel cell power plant to provide both electricity and usable high quality heat to the University of California, Irvine Medical Center. The power plant will generate about 30 percent of the facility power needs, while the heat produced will be used in a direct exhaust absorption chiller to produce 200 tons of cooling for an office building and associated institutional requirements. The medical center, a campus with a 412-bed acute care facility. FuelCell Energy will install, operate and maintain the plant.
